What started at the age of fourteen as a helping hand to his father's best friend, a master plumber, turned into a lifelong career for Terry Overacker, Sr. The aging master plumber sat on a bucket next to the sink that Terry was sprawled under and talked him through the fix step by step. Terry worked evenings and weekends for $1.65 an hour and learned a craft that would take him from Oklahoma to Minnesota over the next thirty-five years.

After high school, Terry studied at the Oklahoma State University School of Technical Training where he received his diploma in plumbing and pipe fitting and then obtained his journeyman's plumbing license. Just three weeks later, he obtained his master's plumbing license, a feat that takes most plumbers years. Although most think of plumbing as pipes below the surface, Terry knows plumbing is more than that, "It is an art," he says. "We specialize in hard to find and unique fixtures that can be found in houses down the street to castles in England. We focus on what benefits people, are selective in the products that we offer and truly care about our customers." Terry Overacker Plumbing makes customer care the focus of the business with personalized service from Terry himself.

After years of leasing space, Terry wanted to own the building he and his crew worked out of as well as have a high-end showroom to allow customers to peruse, touch and view up close the fixtures and faucetry that can make a bathroom a work of art. With a loan from CMDC, he purchased an existing building on a highly visible and busy corner in downtown Anoka that allowed him to create the office/showroom he wanted and that his clients needed.

Although, Terry admits, "I thought the SBA loan process would be much more complicated, it was very surprising and in a short time, CMDC made it a piece of cake." His bank lender said, "CMDC will be your new best friend." Terry says, "You need to have money to make money, and you can borrow that!"

What started in 1997 with a one-ton truck and two employees has grown to a fleet of five fully stocked box trucks and 11 employees serving over 5,000 private homes, big box retailers, churches and restaurants, over half of which are repeat customers. Terry, along with his wife, Gina, who is the marketing/human resources manager and executive administrator, focus on serving clients' complete plumbing needs from fixing leaky faucets, clogged drains and sewers, and thawing pipes to providing and installing new fixtures, faucetry, vessels, and all the pipes that connect them. Their showroom features an array of sinks, tubs, water softeners, water heaters and over one hundred faucets from the basic to the exquisite.
